Quite possibly the finest tour de force in family history storytelling I will ever see. Each family thread is as masterfully woven together on film as it is on the page and though there is some divergence from the source material the end result is still excellent.

While not all storylines achieve the same high standards, I felt with pretty much all characters and was interested in their origin and development. There are not too many movies that can compete regarding the emotions. 8.6/10

This movie'll wreck you. Saw it a few years after it came out -- coupl'a times since: I can still well up thinking about it now some thirty years later. Highly recommend it!
