You can't hide from your own shadow
Director Michael Winnick's chilling tale stars James Marsters as Jack, one of eight captives who awaken in an abandoned asylum not knowing who they are or why they are together. They discover that they've been used in an experiment to erase disturbing memories, but instead, a murderous creature has been unleashed. Reaching out from the shadows, the monster hunts the eight strangers as they race to escape the asylum.

An intriguing start gets bogged by slow pacing, some staid camerawork, and a slightly dumb story - to say nothing of the CGI, which seems creaky even for 2007. While I enjoyed her on Enterprise, this film highlighted some of the limitations in Jolene Blalock’s skill as an actor. James Masters and Tony Todd help lift the calibre but the entire cast is let down by either underwritten or forgettable characters. If it had been kept closer to an 80-90 minute runtime and given a bit of panache with the direction and incidental music, this could have been a much stronger end product - as it is, it’s rather a drag.
