I saw this when I was really young. I was about 7 or 8 years old and I did not understand this was a comedy and vastly exaggerated. I just thought it was as a cool bus. Seeing it now, about 35 years later, brings back memories. This movie is so stupid it's genius in it's stupidity. If you like Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies you will love The Big Bus. I could watch this over and over again.

The concept of this spoof movie was so good that they made the very funny “Airplane” a few years later that was clearly inspired by this movie. The movie does also have a decent budget as well as a basic idea that was Ok for a spoof comedy. The problem is that they do not dare to be funny all the way thus many of the jokes fall flat, the comedic timing is mostly off and the story just does not fit together anywhere. As said, the potential was there but they did not manage to hit the mark. It is still interesting as a pice of cinematic history that elevates Airplane and similar movies even higher by showing how easily such movies can fail.
