Born into poverty. Destined for stardom. He lived the American dream.
Los Angeles teenager Ritchie Valens becomes an overnight rock 'n' roll success in 1958, thanks to a love ballad called "Donna" that he wrote for his girlfriend. But as his star rises, Valens has conflicts with his jealous brother, Bob, and becomes haunted by a recurring nightmare of a plane crash just as he begins his first national tour alongside Buddy Holly.

Solid music biopic. Hits all the typical beats, but does so with a strong cast and performances that are endearing. Such a tragic tale, but an engaging one.
I love this film. I don't know how accurate it is in telling Richie Valens story but it brought it to my attention. I think Lou Diamond Phillips is a fantastic actor and I thought he did a great job here telling the story of a great talent that lost his life so tragically at the age of 17.
LDP absolutely slays. And there's Joey Pants.
Excellent biopic about Richie Valance, one of the victims of the famous plane crash that also killed Buddy Holly. A really good movie with an excellent Lou Diamond Phillips.
No matter what genre of music you like this intimate portrayal of Ritchie Valens is superb. Do yourself a favor and watch this film.
