Synopsis
After her husband dies, Alice and her son, Tommy, leave their small New Mexico town for California, where Alice hopes to make a new life for herself as a singer. Money problems force them to settle in Arizona instead, where Alice takes a job as waitress in a small diner.

**It has its moments, but the constant shrieking, hammy acting, failed quips and Alice’s tedious songs, make for an unpleasant experience to say the least.**

It's nice to see a different type of movie from Scorsese. It's a simple story and a little slow but enjoyable. Ellen Burstyn is great and Alfred Lutter really plays an annoying kid well.
