This plods along like a premise that got stuck in development hell. Sam Wineman’s idea — a tense, intimate showdown between Rowan and a self-styled “hag” — sounds promising on paper, but the execution is painfully thin. The 1h40m runtime feels twice as long: scenes drag with tiresome repetition, the stakes never escalate, and the character motivations are murky rather than mysterious. Ryan de Villiers and Jane de Wet try to carry it, but their performances can’t rescue a script that offers few surprises and worse, little emotional truth. The South African setting is underused, the tone wobblily split between thriller and overwrought drama, and what should be claustrophobic tension collapses into predictable beats. If you want real dread or smart psychological horror, look elsewhere — Hag wastes its concept and its cast.
