Synopsis
In 1981, the New Zealand government invited the South African rugby team to tour New Zealand. This effectively split the country in half. Patu! is the story of the protest movement, HART (halt all racist tours). This documentary shows footage of protester meetings, rugby games and various beatings meted out to protesters from police.

I found this at https://www.nzonscreen.com/title/patu-1983 This was filmed while Nelson Mandela was still in prison, before Rob Muldoon was the PM of NZ, before the French bombed the Rainbow Warrior, before NZ had a nuclear free policy or GST, before the Internet. The world has changed a lot since then. And yet it still looks like NZ It's full of bits of kiwi history. Tame Iti without Moko. A young John Minto. The cars. Everyday racism, with anyone against racism being a commie (quite different to modern NZ, where anyone against racism is called a socialist). Protests where people made their own signs. Patu! isn't a great movie. But it is a part of our history
