Putting the funk into the dunk.
Jackie Moon is the owner, promoter, coach, and star player of the Flint Michigan Tropics of the American Basketball Association (ABA), the worst team in the league. In 1976 before the ABA collapses, the NBA plans to merge with the best teams of the ABA at the end of the season. Only the top four teams will make the move and the worst teams will fold. If the Tropics want to make it to the NBA, Jackie Moon must rally his team and start winning.

"-Duke, what do you do for living?" "-Eh... nothing."
Few good lines, but overall total waste of time
Possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen
I always felt that this film was a perfect encapsulation of Will Ferrell's comedic abilities. He was loud, obnoxious, and ad-libbing, and nearly all of it wasn't funny to me. Years ago, I had a friend, who had been a TV writer earlier in his life, and he'd written for a number of popular sitcoms, shows that I didn't find funny, either. When I asked him about Will Ferrell, he said, "He has no shit detector." I asked what he meant, and he said, 'He doesn't know what's funny, and that's why, to his credit, he'll do anything to make people laugh. Eventually, you're going to do something, and some people will laugh.' That made perfect sense to me.
When this one first came out it was a bit of a letdown. It was not as good as most of the other Will Ferrell films of the era. However, with time I am starting to refer to this one as the last good one of the era. It is aging pretty well (inappropriate jokes included) and it made me genuinely laugh at many points. It is still not as great as others, but it is darn good. Rating: 3/5 - 75% - Worth Watching
