The most terrifying film you will ever experience.
Mia, a drug addict, is determined to kick the habit. To that end, she asks her brother, David, his girlfriend, Natalie and their friends Olivia and Eric to accompany her to their family's remote forest cabin to help her through withdrawal. Eric finds a mysterious Book of the Dead at the cabin and reads aloud from it, awakening an ancient demon. All hell breaks loose when the malevolent entity possesses Mia.

This movie is not meant to be a remake of the first, rather a reawakening of an old and classic evil. Watch this movie with an open mind and you will love it. Watch it and compare it to the original? You will hate it, because they are not the same movies.
The trick is not to compare it to the classic then you'll have a AWESOME TIME!!!
No where near as entertaining as the original
I love this movie. I'm not comparing it to the original because they're different movies. This stands on its own as a scary, bloody, awesome horror movie. Jane Levy is great. The gore! So good.
Suitably gnarly and gooey, with plenty of moments that made me wince, I appreciate the film not just aping the original, but it still lacks a bit of identity for me. It doesn’t have Evil Dead 2’s marriage of camp and horror or the original’s messy ambition. It’s a competent film from a good hired hand but doesn’t feel like his film. The gore is great, with moments that had me gasping in anticipation, pain, or both, but I wasn’t as scared as the film wanted me to be. It feels like it wants to be both suffocating tense horror and the over the top thrill ride that gets cheering in the theater, not quite nailing either. The ending is good fun though, and it’s all around a good time.
