A business on the line. A friendship on the edge. A woman caught in the middle.
In a seaside California town, best friends Mac and Nick are on opposite sides of the law. Mac is a former drug dealer trying to clean up his act, while Nick is a high-profile detective trying to take down a Mexican drug lord named Carlos. Soon Nick's loyalties are put to the test when he begins an affair with restaurateur Jo Ann -- a love interest of Mac's -- unwittingly leading his friend into a police-orchestrated trap.

For 2/3 of this film, there was this nostalgic coziness from the vibes of this film. I was swooned by the looks and charm of Kurt and Mel as much as Michelle's beauty. The acting was pretty good, minus Kurt yelling at people. Raoul Julia was a larger than life character in this film. If this has a more substantial plot, then this would have been more beloved. But not much really happens. The last third of the film feels like a weird crime drama. The stakes never feel high and the lack of urgency from most of the cast is a detriment to the film.
An under-rated crime movie that’s sexy and engaging due to the cast. I think it runs smoothly and it’s less boring than people say. It is hard to find the movie boring when the cast is solid and the performances as well. The late Raul Julia was a show stealer. Also the late J.T. Walsh was always reliable playing an asshole.
A good cast and a bad script.
