It would have been a good film if they cut the first hour and a half of the film out
Honestly, this movie kind of disappoints me, with a weak ending,
there was a scene with a shitty dog
, bad plots and super predictable scenes and situations, I expected little from this movie, but man congratulations, what a bad ending to a saga!
This easily has to be the worst movie in the franchise. We did not come to watch the warren family drama which lasted for 3/4th of the movie and which strangely surrounded Judy and her fiance both of who werent even major characters. The demons and why they haunted the family had no backstory. Also how easily the demon was defeated made this movie a total joke. I cannot believe why they would make the final movie in the series a money making machine capitalising on nostalgia. They could have given us a decent horror story instead.
It was good, it ended well, but I expected more horror and fewer scenes with the Warren family. I didn't remember the daughter.
If you enjoyed this film, this review may not be for you. If that's the case, no worries - Call the Warrens and have their spirits exorcise the demons in my keyboard. From it's opening to it's ending, this is a crass and heavy handed film that glamorizes unethical grifting losers (and allegedly much worse). That it does so in an absurd fashion is the icing on the cake... Oh, and that's not chocolate, by the way. The Warrens were cynical opportunist frauds who exploited vulnerable individuals (and allegedly much worse) and promoted misinformation (religion and the paranormal). Had these films been about fictional characters, it'd be different, but they're not (although this and the last Conjuring films and those in the "universe" would still be bad to mid-at-best). At least the first two films had merit as entertainment. This one seems focused on evangelizing con artists (bad pun intended). It's laid on thick and heavy. The majority of the film is spent on uninteresting minor characters who don't matter. The writing is bad. The leads, usually reliable, sleep walk through this production. There are so many talented people and good scripts out there that won't ever get a shot or get produced... and dreck like this has money thrown at it and are well-produced... and put into the hands of those who don't deserve it. It makes one lose faith (bad pun intended). That incompetent hacks (look at the director's filmography) continue to be employed could almost make one wonder if there may be truth to deals done at the stroke of midnight at select crossroads. As entertainment, this fares better than the third entry (however, I found both subpar). The second film is by far the best, followed by the first. All of the spinoff films are subpar. As always, YMMV. Edit: This film is the curse that keeps on giving. I felt compelled to return to write about terrible scenes. I hate it when stories break their own rules. It doesn't matter how absurd they are, but once they're set, you stick to them. Hence, my frustration at a scene set in a most holy place. A devout priest is seeking audience with their "superior". While waiting, "evil" not only directly manipulates, but completely alters reality. The priest's faith means nothing and the "evil" forces the priest to end their own life. All in service to a scene someone thought might look cool. To add insult to injury (which, depending on your tastes, is at least better than the bad icing metaphor), at the priest's funeral, which is being held outside... almost no one is in attendance and there seems to be no church presence. Mrs. Warren is giving a terrible eulogy. This is not how such an event would proceed. I could go on and on. This film is comprised of poorly stitched together ragtag scenes that make no sense. It's bad. B. A. D. However, it looks slick, has nice production and is in a popular series.
