The book was one of my favorites. When the movie first came out, I knew changes had to be made but remember thinking this was halfway decent. Rewatching years later it felt like it was missing quite a bit. Im sure back in 1995 my mind automatically filled in the blanks. Now I need to track down a copy of the book and re-read it...🤔

Congo is one that could use a remake. Since even in 1995, some of the effects felt out dated. For Earthquakes it was like the director just shook the camera. Amy the Gorilla, Ernie Hudson and the musical score are the best things about the movie. Hudson enjoys hamming it up throughout the movie. Funny how the late Jerry Goldsmith I believe said the worst movie he scored was the 1999 Mummy lol. This isn’t as bad as some say but yeah the Mummy was a much better adventure and film. Goldsmith scored both.

This was an utter pile of crap, chasing trends of the time (only made because the author of Jurassic Park penned this novel), employing CGI and animatronics, but cheaping out on them both. But it remains a staple of my youth, maybe being the first movie that I realized was "bad" and got enjoyment out of its campiness, and is still rewatchable to this day. The scene with Herkermer Homolka eating the sesame cake is forever burned into my memory.

I loved the book and haven’t seen this since it came out in 1995. I forgot how much they changed from the book, the effects are soo out dated but it’s still a fun ride

Amazing cast. Good story. I mean, for 1995 it really could have been worse. [spoiler] the laser at the end is something I can believe in, and the primates weren't too over the top. [/spoiler] Tim Curry sounded a lot like BORAT. Ernie Hudson and Laura Linney were the stars of this movie. Both determined and strong.
