A fascinating walk through the long (& to many in the rest of the world, largely unknown) history of Chinese civilisation; some 4,000 years. Empires rose and fell, often by way of bloody in-fighting, lengthy uprisings and wars. In between were long periods of stability & development. Throughout all that, there is a sense of continuity by way of family and reverence for ancestors. The Chinese have always taken the long view. Whether the access allowed to the producers by the authorities to the Chinese people and landmarks in the early 2010s would happen now is perhaps debatable. So, it also stands as a piece of history in itself, a view of China before President Xi came to power.
