Don't be fooled by the the discrition of the series. It's really a story about a man with daddy issues, obsessed with a dead father figure. The dilution cause by Darrell Miklos's obsession with Gordon really fractures the series, from his vocabularry that only exist with the word Gordon (the amount of times he refrences him could be turned into a drinkning game) to the dilutional believe that every discovery his team makes is somehow Gordon's devine reach that makes is possible. Remove Darrell Miklos's from the entire thing and you would have a good treasure hunting documentary with some interesting historical facttoids and a little insight to the early space program.
