Im Zentrum der Serie „Animal Kingdom“ steht der 17-jährige Joshua (Finn Cole), der zu seinen Verwandten nach Südkalifornien zieht, nachdem seine Mutter an einer Heroin-Überdosis verstorben ist. Die neue Familie entpuppt sich aber nicht einfach nur als Großmutter und jeder Menge Onkel, die man höchstens mal an Weihnachten besucht. Die Matriarchin Janine „Smurf“ Cody (Ellen Barkin) und ihre rechte Hand Barry „Baz“ Brown (Scott Speedman) führen ein Imperium voller Gewalt, Drogen und auch sonst allem Illegalen, was ihnen ihren ausschweifenden Lebensstil finanziert. Die drei Söhne, Andrew „Pope“ (Shawn Hatosy), der älteste und gefährlichste, Craig (Ben Robson), der mittlere und das Küken und Problemkind der Familie Deran (Jake Weary), dienen dem Familienoberhaupt als Handlanger.

It's getting better with each episode starting to get into it well worth a visit

Kind of nice show, tho' for me it could've stopped after S2. Way too many s.x scenes and I def skipped the gay ones: gross! Kept saying out loud that is was acting and I never was a fan of her, but Ellen Barkin is scary.
love this show. i dont mind the flash backs it definitely helps you to understand their back stories. hoping they'll dive A little into Jay and Julia's back story between Julia leaving smurf and when she passes away but with only a couple episodes left i doubt there will be time. Amazed by how well the actor playing young Andrew (pope) mirrors the actor that plays him as an adult. the body language and facial expressions are spot on. he makes his portrayal as the younger version of Pope totally believable. you don't see that often. 👍
