Die US-amerikanische Comedy-Serie Ballers aus dem Hause HBO wurde von Stephen Levinson kreiert und handelt von einer Reihe professioneller Footballspieler und deren Familien. Zu diesen Footballspielern gehört auch Spence Strasmore, der einst der größte Star der Liga war. Mittlerweile befindet er sich jedoch – unfreiwillig – im Ruhestand. Doch auch dieses Leben hat seine Vorzüge. Konkret: hemmungsloser Exzess in Form von ausufernden Partys. Spencer wälzt sich regelrecht in Luxus, ehe er die Bekanntschaft mit den falschen Leuten macht und in fragwürdige Geschäfte involviert wird. Denn letzten Endes geht es nur um eine Sache in dieser Welt: nämlich Geld.

Dwayne Johnson is nothing short of amazing in this fantastic show about the inner workings of football, and a look into the inner workings of a sports financial adviso. And the action is nonstop with every episode you get invested with Spencer Strasmore with a mix of edgy humor and constant entertainment from episode to episode. You can't help but love this show more and more! HBO has a ridiculous hit on their hands.
I didn't expect to like the show as much as I do. I mainly checked it out for Dwayne Johnson who is great in it. The one who really surprised me was John David Washington (Denzel Washington's son) as Ricky Jerret. He gives an excellent performance and even though the character of Ricky can't seem to get out of his own way, I still found myself liking him and wanting him to succeed in attempting to do better and be better. There are some pretty serious moments, but there are some great comedic moments as well making for a good show.
Too many forced sex scenes for my taste.
