Some repetition here and there, which felt very Usanian doco. Not sure if the dramatisation pieces distracted more than enhanced. At points I just listened and it was much better. The selection of past adaptations of the novels I thought were odd too, although we all have our own favourites. What however emerged though more triumphantly than the recent historian's story of Jane's life is the developing political edge to her writings as she went on, and the depth of the relationship between the two sisters. That gave an extra point, when it could have been a 6. More textual and linguistic analysis could have helped get it an 8, but we are in the land of lowest common denominator with TV.
