Handlung

It's not too bad, but it can get quite meandering at times, Many anime's could do with a few more episodes, this one could have done with the regular 12, that would have probably forced a much tighter pacing.

Summary Watari-kun’s ****** Is About to Collapse presents a quietly fraught romantic drama about Naoto Watari, a young man whose life revolves around his little sister Suzushiro until the return of his chaotic childhood friend Satsuki forces buried memories and tensions into the open. Across a 26-episode run (total runtime ≈10h 24m), the series mixes comedy, romance and melodrama as it unravels Naoto’s rigid routine and the interpersonal cracks beneath it. What works Core premise and themes: The setup — devotion, unresolved pain, and the strain between loyalty and selfhood — gives the show a solid emotional throughline. When it chooses restraint, it delivers genuinely affecting moments. Voice cast: Shuichiro Umeda (Naoto), Yumika Yano (Satsuki) and Hinaki Yano (Suzushiro) provide sympathetic, naturalistic performances that sell the series’ quieter beats and interpersonal awkwardness. Tonal variety: The show can be pleasantly light and occasionally funny, which offers relief from its more dramatic sequences and helps the characters feel human rather than archetypal. Where it falls short Uneven pacing and focus: Spreading the central conflict across 26 episodes sometimes dilutes momentum. Several arcs bloat with repetitive beats, and the series struggles to sustain urgency throughout. Mixed execution of drama: Melodramatic turns are hit-or-miss; some revelations land with emotional weight, while others feel overwrought or insufficiently earned. Supporting cast underuse: Aside from the central trio, many secondary characters are sketched thinly, which limits the show’s ability to expand its emotional landscape or make stakes feel broader. Production polish: Animation and visual direction are competent but rarely distinctive. The series relies more on voice work and script than striking mise-en-scène or memorable visual set pieces. Verdict Watari-kun’s ****** Is About to Collapse is earnest and occasionally moving, buoyed by a committed lead cast and a solid central idea. However, inconsistent pacing and an overreliance on melodrama keep it from rising above being just a “decent” romance/drama. Fans of character-driven slow-burns will find things to like, while viewers seeking sharper plotting or more stylized production may be left wanting. Recommendation Worth watching for those who appreciate slice-of-life romance with emotional complications; skip or sample the first few episodes if you prefer tighter pacing.
