An average-to-weak anime. Although the story is simple in theory, it ends up feeling confusing due to the different timelines and the constant philosophical reflections on the meaning of life. The series tries to build empathy for its characters very quickly, but for me, it didn't work. Throughout the entire show, I found it difficult to care about them. Since it is a story centered around deadly games, I believe the balance should be between developing the participants and the games themselves. However, the challenges have little impact and seem to exist mainly as a backdrop for the philosophical discussions. As a result, the games lose much of the tension and significance they should have. The strongest aspect of the series is its visual presentation. The animation style, which resembles watercolor paintings, creates a soft and distinctive artistic look. However, for a story that relies so heavily on the characters' emotions and expressions, this style does not always work as well as intended. Even so, the series has a few interesting moments that manage to stand out.
For such a slow paced anime this feels rushed as there is almost no time to get emotionally attached to characters, so when they eventually bite the dust I felt nothing. A well done show like this would normally have me balling my eyes out, but here, not a single tear. Other than that, it has good dark atmosthere, audio engineering in my opinion is good and at the end of the day it's probably worth watching once at least.
Such an unbelievably slow burn, honestly I’d say 10 times per episode I thought my internet stopped or it has stalled. Story wise it’s dark, a real commentary on the human psyche, but its pacing was just a slow death for me, I couldn’t help but fast forward through half of the episodes. It takes a very specific individual to make it through this anime without checking out.
