Giving a 10/10 rating is a rare occurrence for me. However, I only do so when it is justified by an original storyline, excellent writing, stellar casting and performances, remarkable cinematography, and an avoidance of the usual lazy, formulaic tropes. Richard Gadd is a genius of his generation, and he has deserved another 10/10 from me for this project. The subject matter feels highly relevant, and the acting is so extraordinary that during intense scenes, I experienced a strong sense of gripping anticipation. I was so absorbed, I momentarily forgot I was watching a work of fiction. A masterclass and a true masterpiece by the cast and crew. The main leads, past and present, all merit special praise for their outstanding performances and onscreen chemistry.
Brilliant show. The intense psychological exploration of the characters reminds me of reading Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. Maybe one of the best shows of all time.
As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy shows about bros and shows where homosexuality plans a significant role, I came as close as I could to dumping this show after episode 1. I don't know why I didn't, but I'm glad I didn't. To describe the acting as compelling is understating it. Bell and Gadd's performances were outstanding throughout. Their performances in the final episode were off the charts.
#Adoooro #HalfMan #HBOMax
Simply put Richard Gadd is a master. His first show I watched in 2024, Baby Reindeer, and it was a 10/10. Now is second show that was not at all marketed or hyped in US is another 10/10. There are very few writers/directors I will follow and watch everything they make, Richard Gadd is now in that category for me. The writing and acting is brilliant, the tension is always palpable, and even the most brutal, despicable characters he finds a way to make you care about.
