It was nice, but the way the time traveling was set up, with some events being circular and others linear**, made absolutely no sense (and it gets worse the more you think about it, so best not to). Jeon Yeo Bin did a fantastic job playing two noticeably different girls, and it's always a treat to see Ahn Hyon Seop's sweet face ❤ Not the best time traveling romance k-drama out there, but it was enjoyable enough. **
It was linear in the sense that changing events in the past, modified the future. But the major plot point of the series and the set up for the romance was how Jun Hee traveled from 2023 to 1998 after her boyfriend, Yeon Jun dies in 2022, and yet the reason Yeon Jun decides to die in the first place is so that Jun Hee goes back to 1998 and they meet each other, making that a circular plot with no definable start point. But if you have a circular plot, then at any point in time, those events have already happened in a previous iteration, so how can you introduce modifications to change the future course of events?
Disclaimer : I have not watched the taiwanese original so i don't have anything to compare with and that makes this show experience authentic. When Netflix released the trailer and the description it was really confusing and I didnt understand the story premise but 2 episodes in it will be very clear and straightforward ; you can differentiate the good & bad , present & past and who is who ... Yeo-been was rumoured to be a one-style pony but she has done really well to show the difference between a timid & introverted Kwon Min-ju and brave & extroverted Han Ju-hee .. the eyes , head to toe as Si-Heon say is distinguishable with subtle differences in the character and style ... meanwhile Ahn-Hyo-seop character
was same 90% of the show and the gay dudes were dead in 15mins
. Other supporting roles were also casted right and the well acted. Since this is released by Netflix that makes it enjoyable binge thriller as you don't need wait weeks over twists and turns in the stories. Also shows hit you differently when
the victim and assailant is the same person
I watched the Taiwanese version first before being aware of this Korean remake. They did a pretty good job recreating it with their own colors and still honors the original's spirit, creating something new yet familiar. This korean remake is very K-Drama: beauty filter camera, a handsome and athletic man blessed with a genius mind without even trying, over the top school, and samsung, to name a few. Meanwhile the Taiwanese has a relatively more realistic setup LOL. They toned down a little bit into a calmer story and characters, while improving the aesthetic dramatically. Some people will find the time slip hard to comprehend. They don't really use any cues except color grading to distinguish between the parallel universes. Talking about parallel universe, they actually did a good job of utilizing some popular ideas about time slips, like bootstrap paradox / "no origin" loop (who told the cheesy diamond and viking dad joke first, Koo Yeon Jun in the future or Kwon Min Ju in the past? Who loved who first? There is no beginning, it's a self sustaining circle) and grandfather paradox / observer paradox (no matter what they try to change the future/the past, it always ends up in vain because you can't change it no matter what, or you will cease to exists), and double occupancy paradox (where Nam Si Heon meet Koo Yeon Jun). When I first watched the Taiwanese version, I am pleasantly surprised by the plot twists at the end. The whole story from the lens of the male lead is very tragic and I can't just find a solution to this problem. But they give us a very beautiful ending. If you haven't watched the Taiwanese version, you should!
i need to watch it 10 more times to understand everything , or spend a week on youtube watching timelines order , but i loved it
