Oklahoma, 1934: Die Große Depression hat Amerika fest im Griff. Arbeitslosigkeit, Armut und Hunger sind alltäglich. Nach dem Tod seiner Mutter schließt er sich einem Carnival an. Der Wanderzirkus besteht aus einer bunten Truppe von Freaks, Zauberkünstlern und Striptease-Tänzerinnen und wird vom zwergenwüchsigen Samson und dem mysteriösen „Management“ geleitet. Bald wird klar, dass es kein Zufall war, der Ben zum Carnival geführt hat: Er verfügt offenbar über übernatürliche Fähigkeiten und wird von schrecklichen Visionen geplagt. Auch der charismatische Methodistenprediger Justin Crowe hat eine Macht, die nicht von dieser Welt zu sein scheint. Bewahrheitet sich die Prophezeiung, dass in jeder Generation eine Kreatur des Lichts und eine der Dunkelheit geboren wird?

Back in the beginning of 21st century there was no show on tv that was brave enough to protray good vs evil, Carnivale was the first show to take on this matter and it was doing it brilliantly and this is why the story and drama feels so fresh and unique while you watch and there is no bullshit filler, its just business. After Carnivale so many supernatural shows aired on tv but they all followed because of Carnivale's fanbase. Shame it was canceled and that's because of HBO's financial decisions and nothing to do with show's quality.
Why did it take me so long to find a ace of a show like this?
An amazing show! The battle between good and evil played out in the 1930s is a perfect setting. The carnival really allowed to it create some amazing characters that are played by a great cast. Something about it really resonates with me! Obviously the show was way too deep for general consumption. Very few clichés and lots of moving parts. It really conveyed they feeling of the people who were really driven out of the central states, and were called migrants at the time. My biggest con would be that they did not focus on the good vs evil enough. But that could of just been a problem because they were canceled before it could really take off.
Sad that the unique ones die so quickly sure it was a plain good vs evil but its execution was great and it was one of the few shows that kept me from watching anything else during the week or so it took to finish it. Its really good and really worth my time.
