Surprisingly, I enjoyed the series. Sly as the old gangster is pretty much perfect. I like the fact that the show doesn't needlessly pretend to be anything more than it has to be. I'm curious to see what path Paramount will take and if we'll ever see another series. Because it's hard to get into watching a show these days. You form a relationship with the characters and after a few episodes the show gets cancelled. We'll see and I hope not. It would be a shame.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this show. First episode is the best out of all. Sly at the best

I thought about writing a full review, but I'll keep it plain and simple. This show is far from perfect. But it's better than you might think. Give it a chance if you want to watch an interesting little spin on a mafia man in the modern Midwest.

The flow of quality in this series was the reverse of what you usually find. Most first episodes aren't as good as the rest of the season, largely because they are introducing characters and plotlines. Tulsa King shows how to start with a strong first episode but then as the season progresses, it became less engaging and cliched. I think the strong start gets you to like the characters enough (especially Sly as Dwight) that you forgive it's flaws in the hope that it will end as good as it started.
Unfortunately it doesn't.
The concept of "suspension of disbelief" is often used to excuse bad writing causing the show not to be believable. This show has some moments of great writing (mixed with great filmmaking and acting) and some bad writing. For the most part, the tone of the show treads a good line in managing a viewers expectations. If a show is light hearted then you don't expect it to be as believable and if it takes itself super seriously then you might expect it to be more believable. Mafia shows tend to have many unbelievable elements but a serious edge to the tone so they require clever writing to make them work. Tulsa King takes the mafioso out of his cliched environment and then walks a tightrope trying to figure out what it is. It succeeds more than it fails in spite of mixing and replacing the mafia cliches with new ones like the bikers, stoners, ranchers, native americans etc. I don't have Paramount+ at the moment so it might be a while before I watch series 2 but I have a feeling it will figure out what it is and the quality will be more consistent. Sly is a pretty smart guy, I don't think he would just keep doing the same thing over and over.

Wasn’t expecting to actually like the main character so much. All around great cast, diverse storylines (with some repetitive tropes like biker gang bad). Overall I’m invested and ready for more, even with a weak ending to the season.
