While Ava pitches her reboot to the network, Deborah does final press ahead of her MSG show and fills a key staffing need at The Diva. Then, Deborah prepares to take the stage for the biggest show of her career – which looks much different than she imagined.
Hacks
As Ava embarks on her next project, Deborah, Marcus, and Marty officially open The Diva, and Jimmy's new role proves fortuitous. Then, on the heels of accomplishing everything she's ever wanted, Deborah reveals her final chapter.

Excellent season minus the last episode. Watch episode 9, wait a couple of weeks and then watch episode 10. You will notice that it is all over the place and it should have ended in episode 9
Hacks Season 5 ends the show on a high note, and after a string of really disappointing final seasons this year, it is refreshing to see a show that sticks the landing and does it without ever losing sight of what made it special in the first place. I think season 5 might actually be the funniest the show has ever been. The jokes remain understated, but I found myself laughing a lot throughout each episode, with some episodes being repeat worthy just for the comedy. While the comedy is an added bonus, the strength of this show has always been in the strong relationships at its heart. This season strips away some of the fluff and really hones in on the relationship between Ava and Deborah. It's a potent exploration of a very unique type of character dynamic that I have never really seen before. It's heartwarming and touching and surprisingly packs some strong emotional punches along the way. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are phenomenal and basically have perfected their roles as these two characters. I did want to also note that Jimmy and Kayla are also standouts this season, and there were some effective moments in their arcs as well. I was not predicting this show to go towards an ending like this, but in doing so, I think it ended up really fleshing out what made it so special in the first place. I think that's the hallmark of a great final season. It's a story that isn't necessarily predictable but still feels inevitable, a story that can go in new directions but understands the central questions that the series started with, and a story that understands that characters are always first and foremost. Hacks as a show gets critical and award recognition but may not have the same degree of popularity as a lot of other shows that have aired in the last 5 years. However, I think it ends its run as one of the best comedies, and honestly one of the best shows, to have come out in the last 5 years. Highly recommend.
