Im Zentrum steht die trauernde Mutter Frances Cairnes (Jumbo), deren sechsjähriger Sohn bei einem Verkehrsunfall mit Fahrerflucht ums Leben kam. Da der Fall bisher ungeklärt ist, will sie den Vollzug von Gerechtigkeit in die eigenen Hände nehmen und plant, den Hauptverdächtigen im Mordfall ihres eigenen Sohnes umzubringen. Die Tat scheint perfekt geplant, doch dann kommt ihr mutmaßliches Opfer durch die Hand eines anderen Mörders um. Nicht nur das: Alle Indizien deuten daraufhin, dass Frances das Verbrechen tatsächlich begangen hat. Mit dem klaren Motiv vor Augen, wirklich die Schuldige zu sein, wendet sie sich an ihren Freund, den Privatdetektiv Nigel Strangeways. Gemeinsam wollen sie Frances’ Namen reinwaschen und Licht ins Dunkel dieses verzweigten Falles bringen.

Jared Harris continues his hot streak of appearing in *very* good things and being *very* good in them. The on-location shooting on the Isle of Wight is the true star, but Cush Jumbo gives you a character to root for and the Knives Out of it all is suitably compelling. Not bad for Britbox's first original show.
There are some unwise decisions in this adaptation, especially in the change from the father who in the novel seeks revenge to a mother who in the series seeks justice. This reduction of the dehumanization of the character harms the story, as much as the portrayal of a policeman suffering from PST. However, the construction of that despotic beast that seems to wallow in his guilt on the part of Jared Harris is splendid, and even finds some glimpses of humanity that enrich the character much more than the other adaptations. But the determination to want to save almost all the characters is too cowardly.
Brits again defy my indifference when crime serial drama is created.
