Griff Rhys Jones ist ein walisischer Schauspieler und Autor. Er wurde 1953 in Cardiff geboren, seine Familie zog später nach Essex, England. Nach seiner Schulzeit an der Brentwood School in Essex erhielt er ein Stipendium für das Emmanuel College in Cambridge, wo er zunächst Geschichte studierte, später aber zu Anglistik wechselte. Er trat dem Footlights Club bei und wurde 1976 dessen Vizepräsident.
