[Fantasia '24] Director André Forcier offers a chronicle of Quebec's darkest past when the Catholic Church exercised a tight grip on society. And he does so through a model exercise of satire, poetry and surrealism that reflects the fundamental elements that have characterized his cinema. It is one of the films that best manages to balance the tone of satirical comedy, the drama of ecclesiastical pederasty and the magical realism, with a story that talks about Quebec identity through its weaknesses and its strengths, but that transmits a yearning for freedom and self-determination.
