A great sequel to an original as it follows the famous Baker 12 as they head to an old vacation spot for one last vacation before the older kids go their own ways and while they are there they run into old family rivals that sets up for a wild ride on the lake. The plot development is spot on and its nice to get to know some some of the characters more in depth than the ones we got to know in the first film. It is funny, emotional and lots of fun.
While I still prefer the Clifton Webb original, I did like seeing Eugene Levy in this and Carmen Electra actually put in a credible performance. These are fun little family films and ultimately harmless.
Sequels like this always seemed curious to me. They added absolutely nothing new, repeated the formula point by point, and yet I watched them without complaining because I already knew what I was going to find. The Bakers
went on vacation to the usual lake and, surprise, there was a rival family led by Eugene Levy being the quintessential competitive father. From there on, it was all absurd competitions between the two families, Steve Martin trying to prove his kids were better, and the usual chaos of managing twelve children.
Eugene Levy stole everything. His hypercompetitive father energy with a used car salesman smile made every scene he appeared in better than the rest. Steve Martin did his job, but here the prize went to Levy.
painfully family friendly, fuck them kids
