A slow paced boring snoozefest with not any interest at all.
The story: Adapted from a famous story on the platform, the plot includes all the familiar elements of youth romance tales. City girl Waverly escapes the pressures of her life to spend the summer in a quiet coastal town, where she meets Blake, the handsome local lifeguard who hides a complicated past. The story is sweet and warm but highly predictable, with simple dramatic conflicts that lack enough depth to be truly impactful. Direction: The direction is calm and simple, focusing on creating a summery atmosphere and warm feelings that suit the story’s nature. The director succeeds in presenting romantic moments nicely, but this calmness sometimes turns into a slow pace, making the film pass by without leaving a strong impact or unforgettable scenes. Acting: The chemistry between the leads, Andrea Bang and Roby Amel, is the film’s main driving force. Their performances are charming and convincing, making the relationship between their characters believable—an essential factor for any romantic film. However, the characters themselves are superficially written, limiting the actors' ability to deliver a complex or deep performance. Cinematography: Cinematography is a clear strength of the film. It beautifully captures the charm of the coastal town, landscapes, and stunning beaches. Warm colors and open scenes contribute significantly to creating a feeling of comfort and summer calm, making the film visually pleasant to watch. Conclusion and Rating: This film is aimed directly at fans of light summer romance stories and youth dramas that don’t require much thought. It’s a "comfortable" movie to watch on a quiet evening, relying on beautiful scenery and the chemistry of its leads but suffers from a weak story and underdeveloped characters. Rating: 6/10
Imagine your family planning your life, and you don’t see them for four years. Waverly thought she had her future set. She was going to start her medical residency in Toronto after a summer visit to her aunt in Taipei. When her plans suddenly change, she takes a reckless trip to a small Canadian town, where she meets local lifeguard Blake after he nearly saves her from drowning at a beach party. Blake offers to teach Waverly how to swim, and as the lessons continue, the two unexpectedly fall in love. But will Blake’s past relationships and Waverly’s plans to start a new job after summer keep them apart? Inspired by Kate Marchant’s novel. The story is very ordinary—or rather, the plot is ordinary. The actors were acceptable; sometimes I connected with them, and sometimes I felt the film wasn’t for me. Some ideas were great but presented superficially without deep exploration or emphasis. It’s an average romantic film, though at times I felt bored. Also, the film depicts a same-sex relationship. Age Rating: 18+ Film Rating: 5.5/10
