]7.5/10] There’s not much to *The Flying Car*. It’s basically a random scene from *Clerks*, with no real story or character or anything to speak of. But the dynamic that worked in that movie still works here. It’s amusing to have Randal as the lightly unhinged but imaginative motormouth, talking up a hypothetical devil’s bargain with Dante as his beleaguered coworker. Kevin Smith’s whimsical but raunchy dialogue still sings, and Jeff Anderson remains one of his best purveyors of it. The catch 22 of Randal’s scenario, where every answer Dante comes up with involves some dark twist, or worse yet, Randal shaming Dante for taking the option Randal goaded him into, makes for a funny template for the conversation. At the end of the day, this isn’t so much a short film as it is a slice of life glimpse into the lives of Dante and Randal between cinematic outings. But Smith knows how to write a scene and dialogue, and pretty well honed his original characters at this point. Overall, this isn’t for anyone except those yearning for a little something extra after watching the Clerks films, but it’s a fun extra.
