The swan song is not only in the elderly figure of Pat, but also in a lost time, in an impoverished city, in a different way of being homosexual: "I wouldn’t even know how to be gay anymore." A partly hallucinatory journey that builds a character better (Udo Kier with a moving brooding look) than the journey he takes. But there are unforgettable moments and there is a bittersweet look at the past.
Saw advance screening in Brooklyn as part of "Rooftop Films" and NewFest LGBTQ Film Festival, with talk back afterwards with the director, crew, and most of the cast (minus Udo). I found this low-budget film, set in the *exciting* backdrop of Sandusky, OH, endearing with excellent acting and cinematography. Udo Kier wins as a geriatric hair dresser escaping from his nursing home to fill an impromptu request from a former client. I enjoyed!
For me, this is a very special outstanding film that is literally set in a setting that has already been overtaken by time. Udo Kier gives him the necessary depth and is the perfect cast for me - especially since he didn't even have to act for this role. For me, as a big Udo Kier fan, the film is also little his "legacy" or a complete self. The film is authentic, unsparing, honest, down-to-earth and warm-hearted. Jennifer Coolidge is the perfect complement and the simple setting outstandingly authentic. The rest of the actors also convince with fresh faces and great play. At the same time, people seem honest and the situation lifelike and warm-hearted, which is a welcome balance in today's action-based and effect-overloaded world. Special thanks to Udo Kier, who played the role of his life here for me without having to play at all and in one of his most authentic roles or life situation, looks back mercilessly on himself and the world. "Udo, we will never forget you. Thanks for everything! Rest in Peace 8/10 for the Movie - 11/10 for Kier.
