What I hate about modern films, and what is particularly noticeable in this film, is that the background music and sound effects are annoyingly loud, prominent, and intrusive. If films have to do this because viewers otherwise wouldn't have emotional reactions, then films have serious problems. Additionally, I feel like writers can only create five different characters and use them in every film. I mean, every character in this film has been seen a thousand times in other movies. And also the humor which we had also so many times in other movies. Yes, I'm getting old and don't enjoy modern films anymore, but I recently watched "Cast Away" and "The Truman Show" for the first time in a long while. Those older films were so much better. They didn't treat the audience like they were stupid and had real characters. This entire review has been a rant about modern films, but this film is a perfect example of why today's films simply can't compare to those from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

A nothing burger, felt like a fifth grader wrote the script.

Had no expectations and find it to be pretty entertaining. Great cast, great visuals, great music, ok plot. Not as bad as people are saying. Give it a change.. haters gotta hate.

It’s ours to fight for!” Is straight to streaming the new straight to video type of movie but only with a bigger and I mean bigger budget? Because somehow, someway I haven't really enjoyed any straight to Netflix movie. At least not from the top of my head. Anyway The Electric State feels like such a generic movie. I found out it was based, I mean loosely based on a book with the same name and it started out interesting, at least the themes but it quickly went down the shitter. I mean even Jason Alexander couldn't do anything about this one. It feels so plain. Chris Pratt's wig is all you need to see and you know the quality of this film. It is bad. You look at the cast beforehand and it has a solid cast, you think you will enjoy it. The CGI looks great but that is it. They lean on nostalgia to the 90s, they even mention freaking Kid Rock. They have a fun soundtrack but it didn't add anything to the movie. It is like, here are some great songs but it doesn't fit the movie at all. I have no clue what happened to the Russo brothers after their three great Marvel movies. I heard that there is an Amazon tv show/mini series called Tales From the Loop, which tackles the same book but much better. I have to check that one out. Maybe that will be the only positive thing I get from having watched this too big of a budget Netflix "original". Anyway lower your expectations by 10 if you are going to give the Electric State a shot.

Yeesh, I disliked every single character in this movie. Not one of them was remotely likable. What a complete waste of money - especially considering the absurd amount that was poured into it. Has MBB ever been in a decent film? Her character here was mind-numbingly bland and annoying. Chris Pratt needs to stop playing the same tired action hero role. I also could not get past those ridiculous helmets? Who thought those were a good idea? So many things to hate about this movie, but I'll give credit where credit is due - the CGI was impressive. Still, that's not enough to save this trainwreck.
