"Underdog" is probably one of the lamest movies I've ever seen. I know it's largely for kids but it is rated PG. The dialogue is flat, the characters are boring and the acting is stiff (especially Jim Belushi). You've seen everything in this movie before. There's zero creativity.

I watched this while doing laundry. Good place to do so because I feel like I'm covered in s**t from being doused by this flatulent mess.

Underdog is one of those surreal mid-2000s animal movies that slips right into the “so bad it’s good” category, a weird CGI-fueled fever dream that tries to cash in on the whole talking animal superhero wave. There’s virtually no plot of substance here, the writing is trash, and the CGI feels uncanny and cheap. But somehow, it’s kind of enjoyable in the most brain-dead way possible. The only real redeeming factor is that, yes, the dogs are cute, and that’s basically the sole reason anyone would ever remember this film. It’s charming in a dumb way, and while it’s absolutely forgettable and tonally messy, it still carries a weird nostalgic comfort. If you watched this as a kid, it probably brings back goofy family movie night vibes. But beyond that? It’s not good, just oddly lovable for all the wrong reasons.

Begins well, but soon deteriotiates into a disappointment - culminating with an incredibly forced 'gag reel' in the end credits. 'Underdog' means well and is, in all honesty, a harmless 81 minute film. As touched on, it does start off fairly promisingly. I liked how Peter Dinklage and Patrick Warburton were introduced, while the set up for the dog isn't as bad as it could've been. It does other decent things, like the effects for Underdog are solid and the quippy, rhyme-filled dialogue for him actually, somehow, works. However, it ultimately suffers from tedious story creation and execution. As the film goes on, I felt less and less interested in the premise and also nonplussed about the superhero dog - the gimmick wears off quick, even for what is a short production. The end shebang is also very boring. I can't say I disliked this majorly, to be fair. It's just a poor and forgettable 2007 film from Disney.
