COOLIE NO. 1 (2020) REVIEW Streaming On : Amazon Prime Current IMDB Rating ⭐ : Unrated David Dhawan's 1995 Coolie No. 1 with Govinda was a blockbuster of sort in the mid 90's and 2020 version is bigger but not better than the predecessor. The latest version is full of illogical, groundless and unreasonable events which would have worked back in the 90's with Kadar Khan and Govinda leading but sure it doesn't work where the generation is more aware of cinema around the world. Coolie no. 1 wasnt supposed to or was intended to be released in OTT. It's out and out a massy entertainer for a family with buckets of popcorn in the theatres where you leave your brains at home and just enjoy the flick, but coming to terms with the pandemic around it was forced to be released in Amazon Prime. The movie has veteran comedians whom we have adored over the years like Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever , Paresh Rawal, Manoj Joshi who make the movie bearable for the millennials. Varun is one of the actors whom I have always considered overrated and has again proved me right . The performances are all underwhelming and make you cringe at many moments of this 134min long remake. The production value is better but still the original will always be better. The humour is decent , but the dialogues are too poor for 2020. I only watched this movie for the other likeable comedians I mentioned earlier. The movie being remade doesn't make sense , while David Dhawan still thinks Varun can match Govinda's Comedy timing is yet another shocking facts of 2020. 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 PG : Family Entertainer ✅ Overall, If you have nothing exciting which you can watch with family this Christmas you all can watch this one with family. Another remake, same old story. Varun Dhawan has that mix of SK-Govinda fun but he can't be doing remakes of the movies of them both. That's just hampering his career and also diluting the legacy of the old evergreen flicks.
