The Silencing - ❤x7 This movie surprised me. It was better than expected. Has a decent storyline. Acting is good. Atmosphere and suspense are done well. Overall, it is a very watchable thriller. 1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time 4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this 7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too 9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
Like my autobiography, full of missed opportunities and bad decisions. This action / suspense / thriller does a killer job setting up the story and, with a cool twist at the midpoint, sets the scene for a three dimensional character study that could've really set this film apart But then it backtracked and decided to go back to shooting fish in a barrel.
Completely unplanned, this was my second movie in a row starring this Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, as I just watched _Shot Caller_ yesterday evening. I'm not sure if this guy is an up-and-comer action/thriller type, like Liam Neeson's sudden turn (with the _Taken_ trilogy) but in these back-to-back films, I've been impressed with him. He seems to have a natural talent for portraying raw emotion without seeming melodramatic; and like Liam Neeson, he seems to come across as a legitimate "tough guy" without being the superhero Stallone/Schwarzneggar/Statham type. As far as the film itself goes, I was pleasantly surprised as it seems I've managed to hit on a bevy of losers here lately, and this one was quite good. The storyline itself was nothing new (but rarely do you see that in Hollywood anymore) but the portrayal of everything was done very well. There were some shortcomings, of course: What happened to the two hunters whose rifles got confiscated in the beginning of the movie? What happened to "Brooks" after he was arrested? What was he arrested for in the first place?
What actually happened to "Gwen"? I mean, we know she disappeared but what actually happened? And what's with the scar on each girl's throat? We can assume their vocal cords were being severed so they couldn't talk/scream but nothing was ever actually explained.
Apart from those loose ends, however, the film was a refreshing change from everything I've watched recently. I suppose, if you were attentive enough, you probably could have spotted the ending coming but it was still a decent end to the story...if just a tad predictable. Yes, there were some holes here and there but - IMO - nothing that couldn't be overlooked, especially for a ~90-minute film. Nice thriller with a smattering of storyline to it that kept it running smoothly, with a nice conclusion. If you like thrillers, I would definitely say this is worth your time.
As a sucker for "bleak" "dark" and "atmospheric" in the description for a movie, I checked this one out. It's ok. But the atmosphere and music and tones of the movie got me. Great acting by the lead who I really haven't seen in much else than GOT.
