While on the surface it may seem like just a Freddy ripoff, and yes, that's what the studio was trying to cash in off of, but it really stands on its own. It's fun, got a likeable cast and is unique. Plus it showcases the awesome Richard Lynch.
Shrug from the cop at the end sums this movie up.
>*"You don't like the way I drive, Dr. Addictive Buttface? Stay out of the parking lot!"* Freddy Kruger's underrated not so successful cousin. ***Bad Dreams*** is clearly influenced by *A Nightmare on Elm Street*, especially *Dream Warriors* (which is my favorite of the franchise) and one might even say it's too similar but this was so much fun that I don't care. The psychiatric ward setting is always a hit and the mystery and twist in the third act made it interesting. The kills are very bloody with nice practical effects and the makeup for the villain was a nice touch. The fire sequence in the first half was amazing, the blood coming down from the ceilings, the parking lot scene... such a fun time! I like the final twist, it's nutty but so fitting with this nutty movie.
It started out surprisingly good, but took a hard turn for the retarded by the end. That shot of the cop shrugging his shoulders and walking away sums up my feelings of the third act. The Guns n Roses over the end credits made me chuckle a bit.
