Imagine the story of "Goldilocks & the 3 Bears" told from the point of view of the bowl of soup. _A Perfectly Normal Family_ is the tale of a father of two adolescent daughters who comes out to his family as transgender and transitions into a woman. Rather than following Thomas's evolution into Agnete, the film focuses on the difficulties Emma, his 11-year-old, has adapting to the transformation. Through a slide show of cliché awkward situations (her friends mock her, her father swims topless with his new breasts, her extended family can't pronoun...), we're subjected to her unease, though not much else. _A Perfectly Normal Family_ displays her discomfort but refuses to probe it, offering only a shallow glance at a much deeper picture. Still, the subject is an important one, the angle is refreshing and the cast (even the children) are convincing so I'm willing to throw this a pity 'like' and recommend it.
