The artifice, the unreal, is present throughout the story. Beaches with sand brought from other countries, cybernetic friendships, dreams that seem like realities. The representation of Singapore is also artificial, the facade of the income per capita built on labor exploitation, slave immigration and the lack of freedoms. This dream of the protagonist is the last possibility of escape from that unreal reality.
