Super meta, callbacks galore, super cheesy, all around fun.
The first hour is great, with some great genre send ups and a fun script. Sadly a late twist undermines what went before and it ends badly. A real shame because this was almost a cult classic in the making.
Blood Fest is fun little horror film produced by Rooster Teeth productions. The leads are fun and some of the kills are decent. The humor doesn't always land but some jokes are great. I'm looking at those clowns they got off off Craigslist! (Is this a correct sentence?) They put in as much horror clichés as possible, referenced loads of horror and tried to play by the rules. The ending didn't do much from me and I just wish they did more with those clowns! If you want to give this one a chance, don't expect the world from it. Just try to enjoy. You might be as surprised as I was.
So this was a pretty dumb movie that, I think, wished it were a smarter, more meta movie about the horror genre. There are a couple of interesting concepts (which the trailer thankfully didn't give away), but they're not enough to overcome some truly bad dialogue and shoddy acting (even for a b-grade horror flick). But back on the plus side there are some fun kills and it's overall a briskly paced plot. This is probably only for folks who like to binge on horror and can be forgiving of the film's shortcomings.
"The clowns I found on Craigslist" Amusing, but between the good bits there's some rough low budget bits that seem like they're just not trying 20% of the time. Like one extra take here, 5 more minutes on the effects prep, one more edit...
