i am reaching near Tina from Halloween 5 levels of severe affection for Toni. such a stylish and sweet character tbh. honestly my prior concerns with callous mental health representation and treatment of its minority characters remain and are the main thing keeping this from being a major fave. it's just that Toni is as mentioned so wonderful and this is such a surprisingly intense slice of home invasion horror among the other unhinged moments that make it stand out. this and ANOES2 make me want to give Wishmaster 2 (and probs the series at large) another go. maybe i was missing something with them when i bounced off of them at large.
Quite dull. Wouldn't even bother calling this a horror, more a thriller. The whole premise feels lazy because everything happens because the previous doctor who were seemingly on very good terms with the patients just disappeared over night? He didn't even tell his patients that he was leaving for another job? Meh, whatever.
The cast are good. It's does try and be different by including a psychological element in the form of mental patients but this is unexplored and played predictably. Donald Pleasant plays a weird doctor who has specific ideas of how to communicate with the mentally ill. It didn't go anywhere. It's like the writers got the idea from remembering One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest whilst writing a slasher. It's by no means a terrible movie. If you're a fan of slashers then you'll probably like it more than me.
