this was an exquisite love letter to the franchise (through 2010). when I started it, I was shocked at the length (it's four dang hours). they give about 30-45 minutes for each movie - I strongly recommend taking a break in between movies at least once. the stories they tell are about a no-name underdog finding success in the most unexpected way, and it's mostly interesting and endearing (the first two or three movies). the behind-the-scenes pictures and footage are are a delight and I would watch so much more of it if it was on offer. probably going to binge the movies now. if you're considering watching, yes, just watch it.
_Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy_ is a documentary that covers the history of the Nightmare on Elm Street series. It’s a very thorough and in-depth telling of the franchise from Wes Craven’s initial concept to the final film. There are interviews with numerous actors, writers, and directors of the series who share some very interesting experiences that they had with the films and how they affect their lives. And it’s narrated by Heather Langenkamp; star of the original _Nightmare on Elm Street_. However, the filmmakers could be a little more discerning; as a lot of needless material that’s not really important is included. Yet even so, _Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy_ is fascinating and insightful, and does an exemplary job at covering one of the landmark horror series in cinema.
'Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy' is a fascinating documentary on the Elm Street movies. Don't let the four hour run time put you off, as it's an interesting watch. While the interviews themselves are a bit over the top, like the actors and directors think their made/starred in high art movies. Although you can tell a lot of love and care went into these, even the terrible ones. Also, it's funny hearing Renny Harlin, director of 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master', say every decision he made was "pure genius" while showing the most absurd shots clips from the film.
