Savage and grim, and all the better for it. I read a review on the film which said "a film to be endured and not entertained by." Does every film need to be entertaining? Should there have been a musical number to bring levity to this harsh tale? No, of course not, and while this film doesn't entertain par se, it does provide a gripping story, in a land where good people are hard to come by.

Pierce and Fanning are great in their roles. The movie drags on a little too much, but the grim story of retribution is interesting enough.

This could have been a very intense, gripping and deep experience and depiction of the old west with the themes fanatism, sin and salvation. The plot consists of four acts, which are presented in anachronic order. By half runtime, the movie gets more and more disappointing and develops more hollow as the two strangers arrive at the ranch and hide, into a thypical american showdown und dumb ending. Excellent acting by Guy Pearce, good camera work and nice landscapes, great set design, but overall a very disappointing movie.

Boring and with a script with several holes, not to mention the fact that the film goes nowhere.
