Im Jahre 1980 ist es schon fünf Jahre her, dass Miles Davis eine Platte veröffentlicht hat. Einst verzückte er die Menschen mit seinem virtuosen Trompetenspiel und eroberte ihre Herzen im Sturm, doch diese Zeit liegt hinter der Jazzlegende. Mittlerweile lebt er zurückgezogen in New York und trauert seiner großen Liebe Frances Taylor. Drogen und Alkohol sind ständige Begleiter. Doch dann macht das Gerücht die Runde, er habe neue Stücke aufgenommen. Musikjournalist Dave Braden wittert eine Topstory und will ein Interview mit Davis führen. So disappointed with this one... Cheadle missed a great opportunity to really take us all the way into the life of Miles Davis... Thumbs down!

Whilst I commend Don Cheadle's efforts in directing and acting in this faux biopic, the movie is the equivalent of bad jazz, sending me to sleep as it plays in the background. Disappointing.

It's an interesting take and approach to the story but we don't get the depth or insight that we need. I'd have rated the first half 8/10 and then it just doesn't deliver on the story you deserve to hear. Where does he go? Where did he come from? And I get that it's a "jazz" approach to filmmaking and that Miles will live forever through his music. I just wasn't impressed with the final hour. Don Cheadle does well with his portrayal and credit to him for wearing all the hats in making the film. Ewan McGregor was excellent I thought. 7/10
