Uncomfortable in nature, yet still feels like it's been PC'd for the sake of Friedkin even being allowed to release it. Perhaps the first and only film of it's kind, and considering it was at the height of the leather scene, the world isnt ready for anything like this again. Raw, gritty, and forceful. It doesnt really feel like a Friedkin film, but it pushes as many boundaries as it can.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me” - Steve Burns One of Friedkin’s worst and still a stellar film. One reason Friedkin is one of my favorites directors. I believe this is also one of Al Pacino’s best roles. :knife:🔑💬
This film is about 2 steps away from turning into a Hellraiser movie. Or a Blood Gnomes prequel.
It is evident from the very first minute of “Cruising” that William Friedkin was an outstanding director. The film was partly shot on location in New York gay clubs, and Friedkin is simply brilliant at getting the most out of these locations. This gives the controversial thriller a consistently thick atmosphere. However, I can certainly understand the criticism of the portrayal of the gay community. In any case, the focus is a little too much on clichés. And the ambivalence of the main character played by Al Pacino is also not entirely successful, although Pacino still gives a great performance. For me, however, the merits of Friedkin's direction ultimately outweigh the negatives. “Cruising” is therefore a serial killer thriller that is definitely worth watching.
It would have been interesting for Richard Gere in this role like William wanted. And as far as I can this is Ed O’Neils debut?
