This movie has a bloopers reel before the end credits. It doesn't want to be the new Arrival and if you saw the first movie you know that. If you keep in mind this it's a decent B movie. If you're expecting some masterpiece you'll be disappointed and probably delusional.
The sequel you thought you would never see, probably because its one you never asked for! The original was no great shakes, and despite opening up the action and settings, this isn't much better. While the special effects are reasonable, the dialogue is awful and the story is all over the place (literally). I've seen worse, but this disappointed, wasting the talents of Grillo and Uwais.
Some movies make no sense but still manage to entertain. Beyond Skyline is one of them. It doesn’t really matter if the story is absurd, if the characters barely exist, or if logic is thrown out the window. What matters here is the action, the explosions, and the aliens hell-bent on invading everything. And in that regard, it does just enough to avoid being boring. From the very first minute, the movie makes it clear that it’s not here to develop characters or explore deep themes. It’s all about non-stop spectacle, with fight scenes back-to-back and visual effects carrying the weight of the film. At times, it works—there are some well-choreographed action sequences and a few surprising visual details. But when it tries to take itself seriously, the lack of script and coherence become all too obvious. The dialogue doesn’t help. It’s basic, predictable, and filled with lines that seem taken straight from a B-movie handbook. The characters don’t have much to do beyond shooting, running, and stating the obvious. There’s no development, no depth—just the bare minimum excuse to jump from one action scene to the next. Visually, it’s clear the budget was better utilized than in its predecessor. There are some flashy sequences and a few well-designed creatures. However, the film overuses certain effects to the point where they lose their impact. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is forgettable, adding nothing to enhance the tension or amplify the epic feel of the scenes. In the end, Beyond Skyline is nonsense, but at least it’s entertaining nonsense. If you go along with its game and don’t expect anything beyond a logic-free action fest, you might have a decent time. But if you're looking for something more, you’re better off searching elsewhere.
I watched "Beyond Skyline" because I happened to see a trailer with a couple of large alien beasties fighting among some ancient temples. This movie was worth watching for that battle, even though it's brief. I'm a giant monster fan, so that made this required viewing. The rest of the movie contained characters behaving in ridiculous fashion given the Earth is being invaded by an alien force. Everyone in the movie has personal problems that have zero impact on anything at all. Luckily I watched for the aliens and monsters. There isn't much of a story but there's a lot of martial arts fighting that I didn't know if it was being executed well or not. It seemed like humans kicked alien ass relatively easily. I can't remember why the aliens were engaging in hand-to-hand combat in the first place. It seemed like they had already nailed the process of invasion when they were sucking people up into their mother ship like ants into a vacuum cleaner. The special effects were okay. Not "The Asylum" level bad, but not exactly Star Wars". If you can watch this on your "free" subscription service, go nuts. Otherwise you could skip it and you'd be none the worse.
SOOOOO much better then the first one.....enjoyed it
