The cast is impressive, but the movie is ultimately very bland. The CGI is basically the only thing it's got going for it, and still we can't say it's that amazing either. As a prequel, I guess it's an interesting twist in the characters, but not a very convincing one, and I'm not even talking about how it doesn't match the original mythology (flying without fairy dust? His parents actually wanting him when his personality is later on so strongly based off how rejected he felt by them? Romantic tension between Hook and Tiger Lily?), just commenting on how very weak this new mythology is. Also, what's up with that native tribe? They look like they evolved from some old school ravers that stumbled into Neverland from a desert party in California! I mean, don't get me wrong, Rooney Mara was actually a very nice - if very white - Tiger Lily, I'm just not approving the costume choice.
Pan's got a good cast and some interesting ideas of iconic character origins, but unfortunately it's a pale prequel that's too big on overblown CGI effects and small on it's borrowed plot.
It took me a long time to see this movie, mostly because of all the bad reviews. I can agree with them on a couple of things, but not the entire movie. So seen it from the bright side, Jackman and Hedlund are great, and Rooney Mara is cool. If I still was I kid I'd love the visuals with all the colors and "magic". :) So finally, an ok movie (a bit rushed with the plot), absolutely not as bad as most people seem to think.
I guess if you're 7 years old, this movie must look amazing with all the colours and the lights and the visual effects and whatnot. For an adult... yeah, no. Stay away of this. It's like one of the worst Brendan Fraser movies... Think of _Journey to the Center of the Earth_, only with more FX and less story, if possible. They even got themselves a knockoff Brendan Fraser to play Hook's part!
