Devastating movie that did not go where I thought it would. There are some lightly comedic elements that work better than they should, but the final half hour is a really brutal watch that packs a punch. I adored Kroner's performance and will keep this one in my mind for a while.

Technically you would call it a Nazis' movie but it is so much more! The slow paced plot goes in crescendo and what starts as a joke ends up as the cruel naked truth of so many towns where collaborationists were real monsters and sold their souls to fascism. The movie unlike many others describes the horror of the persecution of jews by revealing to us in first person how reality got twisted back then. It makes us witnesses of the appalling and absurd easiness with which human insanity altered the lives of so many innocent people.
