I wanted to watch this because Scout is in it, and that's fortunate, because she's doing almost all the heavy lifting. Getting the biggest detail out of the way, early on: the movie is about child pornography/pedophilia. I'd say it's handled pretty well, meaning it's never trying to be shocking or exploitative. The production quality is that of a Lifetime movie. The acting is pretty bad - aside from Scout - and the music sounds like it was pulled from a sound library or made with a Casio keyboard. Look, the first act is pretty bad, but it actually gets much better after that. The story really develops, and you can tell everyone involved was at least trying to make a good movie. If _Smile Pretty_ had a bigger budget and was handled by a better indie studio like IFC, this would be up there with _Hard Candy_. Not a bad watch. Good pacing. Difficult subject matter, although, it's presented in a serious manner and our protagonist, Nastalia, is never portrayed as an idiot. Supposedly based on real events, which comes as no surprise.
