"I used to be a werewolf, but I'm all right no-OOWWWWWWWWWW!". Imagine 'A Clockwork Orange', but if Mike Leigh directed it. David Thewlis performance as Johnny is absolutely mind blowing and pure genius. One of the all time best. A despicable, yet care-free man that uses his intelligence to distracts you from how rotten he truly is. 'Naked' doesn't shy away from presenting it's razor-sharp commentary on assault and rape, but will be hard for some to stomach. The script is fantastic with two stellar performances from Lesley Sharp and Katrin Cartlidge, and Leigh finest work.
fuck you Johnny suflex I landed that sheeyit
I thought this was a very clever film. The main character was so philosophical but also cruel, rude, not a contributor of society - but somehow already had life summed up. This film could be renamed to Armchair Philosopher… I only found out about this film through Nick Warren’s Reykjavik mix…where the vocal sample about “Book of Daniel” is taken from the speech to the security officer.
Bloody hell. A dark comedy? It's not a comedy. It's just dark. Johnny's a real prick. The dregs of society. That's Johnny.
The narrative, in general, is simple, focusing on deeply troubled, bizarre and dysfunctional characters who engage in various acts of extreme violence and humiliation. The film adopts a sarcastic and exaggerated tone, but lacks fluidity, sounding too forced. Although some of the dialogues are interesting, they end up being excessive and frantic to the point of irritation. In addition, several scenes seem random, being inserted only to intensify the exaggerations, which makes the experience completely boring.
