I don't know if "The Fink" (Howard Finkle) slipped into the night quietly but I really miss his unmistakable, clarion voice as the WWF ring announcer. Not sure who's doing the announcing at this point in the WWF/WWE timeline but they ain't "The Fink". With that out of the way... This was a decent enough card; I admit to doing a double-take when I saw Dan Spivey as this "Waylon Mercy" character. Keep in mind, I watched the WWF back in the mid-1980's through the early 1990's so there was a TON of stuff that I either had no knowledge of (such as the "Waylon Mercy" character) or very limited information. I remember when "Dangerous Dan" Spivey broke onto the scene back in Jim Crockett Promotions/NWA as part of the "Twin Towers" with Sid Vicious and later with "Mean Mark Callous" (who would move on to become pro wrestling legend in the WWF as "The Undertaker".) The match between "Henry O' Godwinn vs 'Sycho' Sid Vicious" had to be the comedy routine - there's at least one on every WWF card, it seems - and it's just kind of sad to see a wrestler of Ted DiBiase's status reduced to comic relief like this. I was always a fan of DiBiase's from his days in the old Bill Watts UWF promotion to his days as "The Million-Dollar Man" in the WWF and it just doesn't seem right to see him reduced to basically clown status when he's been such as impactful person in the wrestling business. The match between Shane Douglas vs "Razor Ramon" Scott Hall was nothing but the launching of a new storyline centered around the 1-2-3 Kid so the ending there was not surprising. And finally, the "3-Way Title Match" to close the card also should come as no surprise; from almost the beginning of the card, you knew something like this was going to happen. Nothing earthshattering here but it wasn't a bad way to spend a few hours, especially if you're just trying to play catch-up to all the old WWF stuff like I am.
